In an effort to keep in touch with you, our loyal supporters, we thought we would try to start a new tradition for our little corner of the internet: The State of the Yeast Address!
This first post is about something at the root of why we do what we do here: homebrewing. Most of us here at Rivertown started off as homebrewers, and we like to think that passion is what makes our beer so good! But what many people don’t realize, is that once you’re spending the time brewing professionally, you don’t have time to brew at home very often. Don’t get me wrong, we love that you’re all so thirsty, and that you choose our beer to quench that thirst! But, sometimes, it can be nice to get back to your roots.
Because of that, we’ve decided to do something a little different here at Rivertown during Cincinnati Beer Week. On Wednesday, February 13th, there will be no standard, full production run beers in our tap room. We’re taking the taps hostage, and showing the city what each of us can do as individual brewers with the Rivertown Staff Night!
Yesterday afternoon and evening, each of the brewery employees came in on an off day, and brewed 5 gallons of the best, most creative, or just favorite homebrews they could come up with. It’s all sitting in small fermenters, right outside my office, bubbling away. We didn’t give any restrictions. If someone wanted a hard to find hop variety, they got it. If someone wanted to make something that doesn’t even have a style guideline, so be it. And if someone wanted to make something that was just perfect in it’s simplicity and elegance, that was great too. The point wasn’t just to make waves in the brewing community, it was to make your own personal wave and ride it all the way to the tap room!
With that said, I’d like to give you all a preview of what everyone came up with!
Jason – Berliner Weiss
Randy – English Bitter
Tom – 100% Smoked Malt Ale
Adam – Kolsch
Sean – American Brown
Matt – Farmhouse(ish) Ale
Peter – American IPA
Brian – Double IPA
Dennis – Belgian Ale
So, that’s it for this post. I really hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I did writing it. We look forward to writing more of these, and hopefully to seeing all of you in the tap room to taste these great beers that our employees have worked so hard on. Cheers!
